Deliberate Practice
OK. Practice, practice, practice sounds easy. Just load up and play until bed? No way, you want deliberate practice.
At the risk of sounding all scientific, Outliers shared this idea that it takes around 10000 hours of Deliberate Practice to become an expert in ANY skill. What most people don't understand is what deliberate practice really is.
When you engage in deliberate practice, you focus on specific skills or techniques that you want to master, and you work on them in a purposeful way. This means setting goals, breaking down complex tasks into smaller parts, and constantly challenging yourself to do better. It's not just about repeating the same thing mindlessly; it's about actively thinking about what you're doing and finding ways to improve each time. Whether you're learning to play an instrument, trying to ace your math tests, or training for a sport, deliberate practice can help you reach your full potential and become the best version of yourself. It takes time, effort, and dedication, but the results are totally worth it!
So, let's apply this to Fortnite.
Let's say you want to get better at aim. Break it down. What bit of aim? Do you want to get better at flick shots, sniper shots or just plain old shotgun headshots? Once you've got it specific, work out a way of testing yourself focusing only on that. Here's some ideas:
- Play without builds, but only use Shotguns and only aim for the head
- Use a creative map tailored to your needs
- Use a free-for-all (FFA) map and solely focus on sniper kills
